SSA Group Employee Spotlight

At SSA Group, 452 Hospitality shows up in the small moments. It can be a warm greeting, a team member stepping in to help, or someone taking a few extra minutes to make a guest feel heard.

For Joanna Hernandez, Retail Operations Manager at the Dallas Zoo, hospitality starts with positivity. She wants guests to feel safe, happy, and ready to enjoy their day. She also wants her team to feel supported, celebrated, and part of something bigger.

We asked Joanna five questions about what 452 Hospitality means to her and how she brings it to life every day.

What do you hope guests feel after they interact with you or your team?

I hope guests feel safe, happy, and ready to have a positive experience. I am a very positive person, and I feel like my team reflects that too.

Can you share a moment when you knew you made someone's day a little better?

A guest was having a bad day. I was able to assess the situation and make sure he felt seen and heard.

At the register, I gave him a discount because of what he had gone through. Then my team and I sang “Happy Birthday” to his son.

The guest left very happy, and that felt like a moment where we were able to turn the day around.

What makes your team or location feel special?

What makes our team special is that many of us have grown up with similar backgrounds. That gives us a mutual understanding of each other and creates a real culture of belonging.

My team truly feels like a family here in Dallas. We are always finding ways to support each other, celebrate each other, and be there for our staff.

What has working at SSA Group taught you about taking care of people?

Working at SSA has taught me that taking care of people is everyone’s mission.

SSA has some of the kindest people I know. Anytime you meet someone, it is usually with a hug and a warm greeting. This kind of hospitality comes from within, and we share that same hospitality with our guests.

For Joanna, 452 Hospitality is about taking the extra step. It's noticing when someone needs help, making sure guests feel seen, and creating a team culture where people feel like they belong.

At the Dallas Zoo, that commitment is reflected in the way Joanna and her team care for guests and one another every day.
