As a company that prides itself on leading the cultural attraction industry in sustainability, it is always a pleasure to come across a new brand that aligns with our mission and delights and excites us about the future of environmental design.
We recently discovered Buoy bottles and knew they’d be the perfect partner to continue leading our vision of introducing innovative and sustainable product lines to our retail shops nationwide. Learn more about why we’re thrilled about this collaboration and what makes them stand out as our latest partner.
Announcing the Buoy bottle collection
Water bottle trends come and go, so much so, that they’ve become more than simply containers for your favorite beverage—they are a statement about who the owner is. Similarly, we chose Buoy not only because they’re stylish and durable but also because they’re made from recycled, ocean-bound plastic collected from rivers and streams before it reaches the ocean. That distinction matters especially when you consider that every year, over 8 million tons of plastic waste enter our ocean. Here’s why.
What does It mean to be made from ocean-bound plastic?
Buoy bottles are crafted from plastic that has been intercepted before it could pollute our oceans. This means that when you purchase a Buoy bottle, you’re not only getting a high-quality product; you’re also contributing to a solution that helps prevent ocean pollution. Buoy is helping to close the loop on plastic waste by turning waste into a resource.
Not just any plastic
Buoy crafts their bottles from 100% recycled, food-grade certified HDPE plastic. This not only gives new life to plastic that would otherwise harm our environment but also ensures that the bottles are safe for daily use. Manufactured in California using solar power, Buoy also has the lowest carbon footprint of any bottle on the market.
By recycling plastic instead of producing virgin materials, Buoy reduces their carbon footprint by up to 80%, making a significant impact on our planet’s health.
Award-winning design (literally)
With a sleek, design-forward silhouette, it’s no surprise they won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for 2024 in the category Best of the Best. Available in a variety of colors, these products are designed to drive conversation and awareness around recycled and restored materials. For us, these bottles aren’t just a souvenir—they’re a commitment to a better future.
A partnership driven by purpose
Buoy is exactly the type of retail product we seek to carry in our locations, and this partnership reflects that commitment. They are a brand that doesn’t simply just stand beside us but continues to push our sustainability goals forward.
As Jacki Sorvillo, SSA’s Chief Retail Officer, put it, “We know and appreciate the value of a meaningful souvenir, that our guests can enjoy for years and that supports the sustainability and conservation missions we share with our cultural attraction partners.”
Buoy bottles are now available at 35 SSA locations, serving over 31 million guests annually. Every site will have a range of bottle colors, and some will even have limited-edition bottles.
“We deeply value our partnership with SSA. We’re thrilled to bring sustainable, recycled products to guests while educating them about ocean-bound plastic and recycled materials,” says Adrian Colesberry, CEO and founder of Buoy. “Together, we hope that we can continue to drive change and impact for generations to come.”.
